Andrew Thorburn has worked at the Institute, and the legacy Macaulay Land Research Institute, since 1993, as a research assistant in the Socio-Economic Research Group (1993 - 2000) and as the Institute's Webmaster and Spatial Database Manager (2000 - date) in the IT Services group. Previously he trained as a commercial production forester in Scotland.

Andrew’s research focuses on the development of browser based applications to aid the research of the science base.  Andrew also manages the back-end technology which aids in the delivery of Web Mapping Services as part of our INSPIRE obligations.
