Nature Based Solutions (NbS)
Nature-based solutions (NbS) use natural processes to help us tackle major challenges like climate change.
Their use can help address risks such as drought and flood, while delivering multiple benefits to nature and people, making communities and environments more resilient and sustainable.
Create resilient landscapes – nature-based solutions for a sustainable future
The Hutton work with NbS across different landscapes, reflecting the complexity of our natural environment. These include mitigating and adapting to the extreme hydrological conditions of flood, water scarcity and drought.
We have expertise in modelling hydrological processes and climate change to help identify and understand risks and support dialogue and decision-making.
At community level, we work on the ground with local stakeholders to design appropriate site-specific measures.
We can develop a series of interventions to provide a holistic approach within a geographical area, such as a river catchment, combining NbS with other approaches, such as riparian woodland planting and agro-ecological principles, to provide additional benefit.
Our approach to NbS focuses on delivering multiple benefits to both nature and people.
