The James Hutton Institute Scientific Services manages several breeding consortia and programmes, building alliances to support the development of the next generation of soft fruit and vegetable varieties. 

With clearly established objectives, these partnerships are introducing new, industry ready varieties where they are needed most. 

Our experienced team of breeders work closely with the potato industry to develop improved varieties that meet the diverse needs.
Our raspberry programme is funded by the Raspberry Breeding Consortium, which keeps us focused on the industry’s current needs.
We have a exciting commercial programme, funded by the Blackberry Breeding Consortium, which focuses on large-fruited blackberries.
We have a proven history in research and development of cultivars for blackcurrants and other Ribes species.
We manage a Blueberry Breeding Consortium, offering a programme which in time, will deliver new and improved blueberry varieties.
Our breeding program focuses on developing high-yielding, resilient crop varieties, focusing mainly on Potatoes, Soft Fruits, Barley, and Brassica.
